When decorating your home your bathroom interior designs often gets overlooked  but with some decorating magic you can turn it into a cozy retreat. Having a small bathroom can be frustrating and be a family joke about how you bump into the sink when you walk in. You can’t change the size of your bathtub or sink but you can certainly create the appearance of more space in your bathroom.

Make sure to have a good storage solution on hand. Keep it functional and less is better here. You can use a simple bathroom rack that goes over top the toilet tank to adding shelves right into the walls. Nothing makes a bathroom look smaller than a bunch of clutter on the counter tops and floor. Have labeled bins or storage baskets that endure moisture and heat sitting on the shelves. Eliminate all the clutter by only having the bathroom essentials in the bathroom. Everything else should be taken out and placed in an appropriate spot.

Paint color can be the quickest way to add a new look to the bathroom. Light shades can open up the space and add an airy feel to it. Dark colors can definitely make the room feel even more boxed in. If you would like to use wallpaper keep the pattern to a minimum and something with soft colors is recommended just like paint.

If you are using floor mats to accent the colors of the walls opt for one large mat in a solid light color. Less is more here. Use a floor mat that is made for the bathroom and can be easily laundered. Stay away from bathroom rugs that are thick and decorative. Less texture will give the illusion that the room is larger.

If there is a window in your bathroom then you are lucky to have sunlight pouring into that room.  Interior designing your bathroom using sunlight can make your space more cozy and the light opens up the room. Always use light fabric for window treatments and a pull down shade behind it if you are facing a neighbor’s window. For small bathrooms that don’t have a window you can create the illusion. A large scenic piece of artwork placed strategically on the wall can give the feeling you are looking outside. An architectural design that is used as a border on the walls can add to the windowless room.

Mirrors being used correctly can reflect light and create a nice roomy atmosphere. If you live in an apartment or rented space ask for permission to remove that standard medicine cabinet. Most rental agencies agree to some changes as long as the space is returned to the same design when the occupant has moved out. Replace that small cabinet mirror with a large mirror of your choice. The mirror can reflect your personality. Choose a contemporary piece to a neat vintage market find.

There are certainly ways to spice up a small bathroom and can take thought and planning but it’s achievable. The next time you walk into your sink think about re-decorating the space.
